The outstanding quality of South African wine

“Looking back over the last decade, I’m constantly amazed at the progress the industry has made. Everyone should take great pride in brand South Africa,” writes Tim. “I sincerely hope that the reviews and scores in my 2022 report, as well as the Medals of Excellence given to producers whose wines have scored more than 90 points, will ensure that more people are made aware of the outstanding quality of South African wines. More than ever, we need to tell the world!”

Tim Atkin draws the world's attention to the South African wine industry

“South African wine makes up around 4% of total wine sales worldwide, yet our small region is known for punching well above its weight,” says Richard Bradfield. “Far from the ‘cheap-and-cheerful’ reputation that South Africa had when we first returned to the world wine stage, locally produced wines now consistently feature among the best in the world. With the concerted efforts of passionate winemakers, masters of wine, wine writers and editors, among many others, South Africa remains a rising star on the global wine stage. Among these heroes sharing the joy of South African wine, few shine as bright, or are more respected than Tim Atkin. Over the years, Tim has drawn both the world's attention – and affection – to our small, local wine industry. Our sincere thanks to Tim and his team for another fantastic review of Alvi’s Drift’s wines.”
