Alvi’s Drift Awarded 19 Medals at the 2023 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition Spain

Alvi's Drift winery is no stranger when it comes to wine awards. Read our blog to learn more about our first award winners of the year.

Alvi’s Drift Private Cellar has received news of its first award-winning wines of the year – and it’s a bountiful harvest indeed.

The Scherpenheuwel ward winery, situated in the cooler southern reaches of the greater Breede River Valley wine region recently collected a total of 19 medals (5 Great Gold, 11 Gold and 3 Silver) at the 2023 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition Spain.

“To have so many wines scored in the mid-to-high 90s in a competition of this standard is an incredible achievement and honour for us, as a winery and as a team.”

With two of the much-awarded Boland winery’s wines scoring an impressive 97 points each, this early achievement bodes well indeed for the third-generation, family owned wine farm.

“Spain’s Ribera del Duero region produces some of the best red wines in the world, in my opinion. For our Verreaux Pinotage and Albertus Viljoen Bismarck to be scored so highly makes me really proud.”
